Dragon Ball Z: Bukuu Tougeki was a Game Boy Advance release from Banpresto that arrived when the handheld was full of anime adaptations. It covers the entire Dragon Ball Z storyline, from the Saiyan saga to the Buu saga, and includes a separate "what if" scenario for each playable character. The roster is extensive, though it misses a few notable fighters like Android 17 and Super Saiyan 3 Goku.

You control a single character in one-on-one fights that mostly take place in the air. Each character has three power levels; Goku, for instance, starts at his base form, then transforms into a Super Saiyan, and finally into a Super Saiyan 2. You perform special moves by inputting directional commands combined with the attack button, and the combat is faster than many other GBA fighters. The main objective is to deplete your opponent's health bar within the time limit. Modes include Story, which follows the anime plot; Z Battle, a standard versus mode; and a shop where you can spend points to unlock additional characters and harder difficulty settings. The game moves at a quick pace, and learning when to transform or use a super attack is key. It feels responsive and captures the intensity of the show's battles.
