About Disney's The Jungle Book 2 (e)(patience)
I picked up Disney's The Jungle Book 2 for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003. It was published by Ubi Soft, a familiar name from that era of licensed platformers. This was a time when handheld games were often simpler, side scrolling adventures based on animated films, and this one fit right into that category.
You control Mowgli as he runs, jumps, and climbs vines through a series of jungle levels. The main goal is straightforward: get from the start of each stage to the end while avoiding enemies and environmental hazards. A couple of key mechanics stand out; you can collect special fruit to fill a meter that lets you call on Baloo for a screen clearing attack, and certain areas require you to ride on the backs of animals like Baloo or Bagheera to cross larger gaps. The pacing is generally relaxed, though some enemy placements can feel a bit cheap, making certain jumps more frustrating than fun. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky, trip through a familiar world.
