I picked up Disney Sports: Basketball around the time it came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It was a Konami release, one of those many licensed titles that tried to capture a younger audience on the handheld. It fit right in with the era's trend of putting familiar characters into different sports, a common sight next to the platformers and RPGs on the system.

You control a team of Disney characters, dribbling and passing down the court to score baskets. The main goal is to win matches in a tournament mode, working your way through a bracket against other Disney teams. A couple of mechanics stand out: you can build up a special meter to unleash a super shot that's almost unblockable, and you perform alley oops by pressing a combination of buttons for a quick two points. The game moves at a fast pace, but the computer opponents can be surprisingly tough on defense, making you work for every shot. It feels like a simplified arcade experience that relies on quick reflexes and learning the timing for those power moves.
