Disney Sports American Football is one of those weird little GBA sports games that shouldn’t work but somehow does. You’ve got Mickey, Donald, and the gang suiting up in full pads, running plays like it’s the NFL—except Goofy keeps tripping over his own feet when he tries to catch a pass. The controls are simple enough (d-pad and two buttons), but the AI actually puts up a decent fight on higher difficulties.
First thing you’ll notice? The sprites are chunky and colorful, with each character having their own exaggerated animations—Donald’s temper tantrums after a dropped ball never get old. There’s a surprising amount of strategy too, since different Disney characters have stats favoring speed, power, or agility. I wasted way too much time trying to make a viable team with Pluto as my QB before realizing he’s better off as a receiver.
It’s definitely a product of its time, but if you’re into retro sports games with a silly twist, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect Madden-level depth.
