I picked up Digimon Battle Spirit 2 back when it came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It was developed by Dimps and published by Bandai, a familiar pairing for Digimon fans at the time. This was during the GBA's peak, a period filled with licensed games trying to capture the energy of their source material on the small screen.

You control a Digimon, running and jumping through side-scrolling arenas to battle an opponent. The main goal is to knock your rival off the screen by attacking them, which builds up a spirit gauge. Once the gauge is full, you can unleash a super attack. The arenas are multi-tiered, so you're constantly climbing ladders and platforms to gain a positional advantage or to collect power-ups that appear. The pacing is fast, almost frantic, as you try to land hits while avoiding your opponent's own assaults. It's a simple, energetic brawler that feels like a quick playground scrap.
