About Digimon 9 : Tyrannosaurus Articles 2002
I picked up Digimon 9: Tyrannosaurus Articles 2002 for the Game Boy Color, a release from that period when developers were still squeezing new titles out of the aging handheld. I believe it was published by Bandai, which makes sense given their history with the franchise. It's one of those late-era GBC games that feels like it arrived just as everyone was starting to look toward the Game Boy Advance.
You control a young Tamer and their partner Digimon, navigating a world split into separate screens. The main goal is to explore various environments, from digital forests to data streams, to help your Digimon grow and evolve. Signature mechanics include turn-based battles against wild Digimon and a training system where you manage your partner's stats and mood. You also collect specific items, sometimes by solving simple environmental puzzles, to unlock new areas or evolution paths. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of backtracking, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly during boss encounters. It feels like a slow, methodical project of raising a digital companion from scratch.
