Dexter's Laboratory: Chess Challenge on the GBA is exactly what it sounds like—chess, but with Dexter and Dee Dee messing up the board. The pieces are all themed after the show, which is fun if you grew up watching it, though honestly, the novelty wears off after a few matches.
You start off playing against Dexter himself, who talks way too much smack for a kid who keeps losing to his own sister. The AI isn’t exactly Deep Blue—it’s more like "mildly annoyed blue"—but some of the later puzzles get surprisingly tricky. The animations are cute, though, especially when Dee Dee flips the board after you beat her.
If you’re just looking for a solid chess game, there are better options. But if you want to relive some Cartoon Network nostalgia while moving a giant robot Mandark piece across the board, it’s not a bad way to kill time. Just don’t expect it to replace your actual chess app.
