About Densha De Go! (japan)
Densha de Go! came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, a time when handhelds were full of quirky Japanese titles that rarely left the country. Taito Corporation, the developer, made this one a very specific kind of simulator. It was not about racing cars or fighting monsters; it was about driving a commuter train in Japan according to a strict timetable.
You control the train driver, managing the throttle and brake to stick to the schedule. Your main goal is to arrive at each station precisely on time, not too early and certainly not late. The game's signature mechanics involve watching the speedometer closely, listening for the station chimes that signal when to start braking, and stopping the train so the doors align perfectly with the platform markers. It is a game of constant, small adjustments, and the difficulty comes from the unforgiving timing and the pressure of a full passenger scorecard. Playing it feels like a careful, methodical dance with a massive machine.
