About Densetsu No Stafy (j)(eurasia)

Densetsu no Stafy came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by TOSE. It was part of that wave of bright, inventive platformers that felt perfectly suited for the handheld, a time when you could find these quirky, character-driven games tucked away alongside the more established franchises. It never made it out of Japan officially, which made finding a cartridge feel like a small discovery.

You control Stafy, a little star who spins to move and attack. Your main goal is to rescue the princess, which sends you through a series of themed worlds. The levels are built screen by screen, and you clear them of enemies and obstacles to proceed. Stafy's spin is his primary tool; you use it to defeat foes, break blocks, and even swim through water with a propeller-like motion. You collect sea pearls to open up new areas, and the game introduces simple transformations, like turning into a submarine to navigate tight underwater passages. The pacing is generally relaxed, with the challenge coming more from exploration and light puzzles than punishing difficulty. It feels cheerful and straightforward to play, like a sunny afternoon spent poking around in a colorful storybook.
