I picked up Defender for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a Midway Games release that landed during a time when the handheld was full of arcade ports. It was a straightforward attempt to bring a classic into your pocket, no more and no less.

You pilot a lone fighter ship over a horizontally scrolling landscape, tasked with protecting human colonists from abduction by waves of alien ships. Your main objective is to prevent the Landers from capturing every last human; if they succeed, the planet explodes. The core loop involves deftly maneuvering your ship, using your laser to destroy enemies and smart bombs to clear the screen in a pinch. You must also swoop in to catch falling colonists, returning them safely to the ground before they are lost. The pace is relentless, the difficulty steep, demanding quick reflexes and constant situational awareness. It feels like a tense, high-stakes patrol where a single mistake can cascade into failure.
