Deadly Skies is one of those underrated GBC flight combat games that somehow makes pixelated dogfights feel intense. You're a mercenary pilot caught in the middle of Zabayral's civil war, and the first mission throws you straight into a chaotic skirmish—no hand-holding. The controls take a minute to get used to (hold B to accelerate, tap A to fire), but once it clicks, weaving between enemy fire while lining up shots feels surprisingly smooth for a Game Boy title.
The missions are short but varied—sometimes you're escorting bombers, other times you're scrambling to take down fighters before they overwhelm your allies. The pixel art does a lot with a little, especially when you pull off a tight turn and see your plane bank sharply. Just don't expect Dreamcast-level depth—this is a stripped-down, portable version, but it nails the arcadey thrill.
If you dig old-school air combat and don't mind some jank, it's a solid pick for quick sessions. The European version even lets you play in French or German if you're feeling fancy.
