Dark Arena came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Graphic State. It was part of that early wave of GBA shooters, a time when having a first person perspective on a handheld felt like a novelty. The hardware could handle it, and developers were testing what was possible.

You control a lone soldier navigating a series of alien infested bases. Your main goal is to survive each level, find keycards to unlock doors, and ultimately defeat the final boss. The game progresses screen by screen, clearing rooms of enemies before moving on. You switch between a few different weapons, like a pistol and a shotgun, managing your ammo carefully. The pacing is methodical; you often backtrack through familiar, now quiet, hallways. It feels like a slow, tense crawl through claustrophobic corridors where any door could open to a swarm of creatures.
