About Cyborg Kuro-chan 2 - White Woods No Gyakushuu (japan)
Cyborg Kuro-chan 2 came out in 2000 for the Game Boy Color, developed by KID and published by Media Factory. It was part of that late era for the handheld, when developers were really pushing what the hardware could do visually. This game is a sequel based on an anime about a robotic cat, and it landed right as the Game Boy Advance was on the horizon.
You control Kuro, a cyborg cat equipped with a retractable sword in his tail. Your main goal is to explore a series of side scrolling stages, fighting off robotic enemies and navigating environmental hazards. The gameplay involves careful platforming, using your tail sword to defeat foes, and solving simple puzzles to progress. You move screen by screen through themed areas like forests and factories, with a boss waiting at the end of each major stage. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some jumps require precision and the combat can be surprisingly challenging. It feels like a solid, action focused platformer from that specific time in portable gaming.
