Crystalis on the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, published by Nintendo. It was a late release for the system, arriving when many players were already looking ahead to the Game Boy Advance. The game is a top-down action RPG that originally appeared on the NES, and this version adapted that adventure for a handheld format.

You control a hero who awakens with no memory in a post-apocalyptic world. Your main goal is to recover the four elemental towers to prevent a global disaster. You explore the world screen by screen, fighting monsters with a sword that you can charge for a powerful spin attack. You also find and use different elemental swords and magic, like the Wind Sword to create tornadoes or the Fire Sword to burn obstacles. The dungeons are large and require you to solve puzzles and defeat bosses to progress. The game has a steady pace, though some later areas can be difficult without careful exploration. Playing it feels like piecing together a broken world while mastering a simple but engaging combat system.
