Cross Country Racing is one of those old-school Game Boy Color racers that feels janky at first but weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of it. You’ve got these tiny pixel cars bouncing around off-road tracks, sliding through mud and kicking up dust—it’s way more chaotic than you’d expect from a GBC game. The handling takes some getting used to (prepare to fishtail into a tree a few times), but nailing a tight corner without spinning out feels oddly rewarding.

There’s a decent mix of European rally stages, from tight forest paths to wide-open desert stretches. The French/German language options don’t add much unless you really want to read the bare-bones menu text in another language, but hey, it’s there. Not gonna lie, the music’s a repetitive loop, but the engine noises—those crunchy little revs and skids—are weirdly charming.

It’s definitely a product of its time, but if you’re into retro racers with a rough edge, this one’s got some dumb fun buried in it.
