Croket! 4 is one of those weird little GBA RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. You play as Croket, this kid who gets dragged into protecting a magical forest alongside a bunch of guardian spirits (the "Mamorigami"). The combat's a mix of turn-based battles and real-time movement, which keeps things from feeling too slow.
First thing you'll notice? The sprites are surprisingly expressive for a GBA game, especially the enemy designs—some of them are just bizarre in the best way. The early game throws you into a few simple fetch quests to get the hang of things, but it doesn’t take long before you’re juggling different spirits and their abilities. Some are way more useful than others, so expect a bit of trial and error.
If you’re into obscure JRPGs with quirky charm, this one’s worth a look—just don’t expect a deep story or polished mechanics. It’s the kind of game you play for the oddball vibes.
