About Croc
I remember picking up Croc on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was developed by Argonaut Games, and it felt like a solid attempt to bring a 3D platformer experience to the handheld. At the time, the Game Boy Color was full of simpler, sprite based games, so seeing an isometric 3D world was a notable shift. It wasn't trying to be the next big thing; it was just a different kind of adventure for the system.
You control Croc, a small green creature, and your main goal is to rescue the Gobbos, your little furry friends, who are scattered across various islands. The game plays out screen by screen, with each area presenting a self contained challenge. You jump across platforms, avoid enemies, and stomp on some to defeat them. A key part of the gameplay is collecting colored crystals and jigsaw pieces to unlock new worlds and progress. The pacing is deliberate, and some of the platforming can be quite precise, demanding careful jumps. It feels like a methodical exploration through a colorful, blocky world.
