Okay, so imagine Crash and Spyro—two of the most chaotic mascots from the PS1 era—somehow end up in the same GBA game. That’s Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rampage for you. Cortex and Ripto team up (bad idea), and now you’re swapping between Crash’s spin attacks and Spyro’s fire breath to plow through levels that feel like a weird, colorful mashup of both worlds.
The controls are simple—run, jump, smash crates, the usual—but some of those later platforming sections get surprisingly tricky. I remember getting stuck on a few of Spyro’s glide-heavy areas because, well, the GBA screen isn’t exactly spacious. Still, the pixel art pops, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about bouncing between their movesets mid-level.
It’s not the deepest platformer, but if you ever wanted to see these two goofballs share a cartridge, this is as close as it gets. Just don’t expect it to play like their console games—this is pure handheld chaos.
