About Cool Hand
I picked up Cool Hand for the Game Boy Color back when it first released in 2000. It was developed by Tarantula Studios and published by Take-Two Interactive, a time when the handheld was full of puzzle games trying to stand out. This one was a card-matching game, but it had a twist that made it more than just flipping pairs.
You control a cursor, moving it around a grid of face-down cards, flipping them to find matching suits or numbers. The main goal is to clear the board before time runs out, but you also have to avoid the jokers that pop up and scramble your progress. Two mechanics define the play: you can use special power-up cards that freeze the timer or remove jokers, and the game introduces increasingly complex layouts that force you to plan several moves ahead. The pacing is relentless; the timer ticks down quickly, and later stages become a real test of memory and speed. It feels like a tense race against the clock where a single mistake can undo your careful planning.
