Classic NES - Ice Climber was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004 as part of Nintendo's series of NES re-releases. It brought the simple, arcade-style climbing of the original to a portable screen, fitting right in with the GBA's extensive library of classic and retro-inspired games.

You control Popo, a small climber armed with a wooden mallet. Your goal is to ascend a series of mountain stages, each split into multiple vertical screens. You break the blocks above you with your mallet to create openings, then jump through them to reach the next level. Along the way, you must fend off condors that try to snatch you and avoid or smash creatures like polar bears and seals that patrol the platforms. The game moves quickly, demanding precise jumps and timely hammer swings as the screen scrolls upward, forcing you to keep pace. It feels frantic and a little clumsy, but breaking through to the summit provides a genuine sense of relief.
