Classic Bubble Bobble on Game Boy Color is basically the same charming arcade bubble-popping action you remember, just shrunk down for handheld play. You’re still Bub or Bob (or both if you’ve got a buddy), blowing bubbles to trap enemies before popping them for points. The controls feel a little cramped compared to the arcade stick, but once you adjust, it’s surprisingly smooth—and those little chiptune renditions of the theme song are weirdly nostalgic.
Some levels play out exactly like the original, while others tweak enemy placements just enough to keep you on your toes. The screen’s small, so you’ll miss a few jumps at first when enemies drop from off-screen. Still, it’s impressive how much of the chaos they packed into that tiny cartridge. If you’ve got a soft spot for the arcade version, this one’s a solid way to kill time between bus rides.
