Chi to Ase to Namida no Koukou Yakyuu is one of those niche Japanese baseball games for the Game Boy Color that never made it overseas—which is a shame, because it’s got way more personality than you’d expect. Right off the bat (pun intended), you’re thrown into high school baseball drama with a story mode that actually makes you care about your ragtag team. The pixel art’s rough but charming, and the gameplay’s simple enough to pick up, though good luck hitting anything until you get the timing down. It’s definitely not MLB-level polish, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about grinding through practice sessions just to barely win a tournament. If you’re into retro sports games with a side of melodrama, this one’s a hidden gem.
