About Charlotte's Web
I picked up Charlotte's Web for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when licensed games based on movies were common on the handheld. It was developed by Atomic Planet Entertainment, and it follows the story of the film pretty directly. You don't see many games based on E.B. White's book, so it was a curious title to find among the usual platformers and RPGs on the system.
In the game, you primarily control Wilbur the pig, navigating him through side scrolling levels across different locations like Zuckerman's farm. Your main goal is to find letters to help Charlotte spell out words in her web, which involves exploring each area, talking to other animals, and completing tasks for them. The gameplay is built around collecting items, solving simple environmental puzzles, and avoiding hazards like pesky crows or getting lost in the tall grass. The pacing is generally relaxed, making it accessible for younger players, though some of the fetch quests can feel a bit repetitive. Moving Wilbur through the colorful, familiar settings from the story creates a gentle, low stakes adventure.
