About Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (e)(independent)
I picked up Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005. It was one of those many licensed games from the era, developed by High Voltage Software and published by Global Star Software, that tried to capture the feel of the Tim Burton film on a handheld screen. It fit right in with the platform's library of colorful, side scrolling adventures based on movies.
You control Charlie Bucket, navigating the bizarre rooms of Willy Wonka's factory. Your main goal is to find and rescue the other children, who have each gotten into trouble in their own predictable ways. The gameplay involves screen by screen platforming, collecting candy pieces, and solving simple puzzles, often by interacting with Oompa Loompas to progress. The pace is steady, and the challenge is generally forgiving, making it accessible for younger players. It feels like a straightforward tour through a sugary, slightly strange world.
