Championship Motocross 2001 is THQ’s follow-up to their Game Boy Color motocross series, and yeah, it’s got Ricky Carmichael’s name slapped on it—which basically means you’re getting some legit dirt bike action. The controls are simple enough (hold A to accelerate, B to brake), but nailing those jumps without faceplanting takes practice. The tracks get pretty wild, with mud pits and tight turns that’ll test your reflexes.
You start with a basic bike, but if you place well in races, you can upgrade parts or unlock faster models. The AI riders aren’t pushovers either—they’ll shove you into the dirt if you’re not careful. It’s not the deepest racer out there, but for a GBC game, the sprite work and sense of speed hold up surprisingly well. Just don’t expect a full-on sim—this is arcade-style chaos with a side of rooster tails.
