Challenge of the Five Realms, also known as Spellbound in the World of Nhagardia, is a fantasy role-playing game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed by MicroProse Software and published by Microplay Software, it presents a top-down perspective using 256-color VGA graphics. The game shares its release year with the developer's other title, Darklands, and is set within a conventional medieval fantasy world.

The player assumes the role of the Prince of Alonia, leading a party that can include up to ten characters. The primary objective is to defeat the antagonist, Lord Grimnoth, and halt the spread of a magical blight known as the Plague of Darkness. A key feature is a time limit; the player has one hundred in-game days to complete this mission, with the plague's progression visually tracked on the interface. Character creation uses a questionnaire system where responses to hypothetical scenarios determine the protagonist's starting class, such as warrior, wizard, thief, or diplomat, and their initial attributes.

Progression involves exploration, combat, and solving puzzles across the game world. A wide array of skills and attributes, comparable in number to other expansive role-playing games of the era, allows for multiple approaches to overcoming obstacles. The party management is influenced by a Personality and Attitude system, where each character has defined traits like aggressiveness or cowardice. These characters can autonomously suggest themselves for tasks they are skilled in, such as picking locks or negotiating, which affects how the player directs the group during adventures.
