About Catz
I picked up Catz for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a pet simulation game published by Ubisoft. It was part of that wave of virtual pet games on handhelds, a time when you could carry a little digital life in your pocket. This wasn't a complex RPG or a fast-paced platformer; it was a quieter, more personal kind of game, focused on the simple routine of caring for a cat.
You start by choosing or adopting a kitten, and then you are responsible for its well-being. You control a cursor to interact with your cat and its environment. Your main objective is to raise a happy, healthy pet by feeding it, playing with it using various toys like a ball of yarn or a feather wand, and keeping it clean. Signature mechanics include teaching your cat tricks through repetition, which helps it learn and grow, and decorating its living space with items you purchase using in-game points earned from good care. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with no real failure state, making it a low-stress experience. It feels like a calm, daily check-in, a small pocket of responsibility and affection.
