If you grew up with the Cars movie, this GBA game is a surprisingly solid little racer. You start off as Lightning McQueen, tearing through Radiator Springs and the Piston Cup tracks—nothing groundbreaking, but the sprites actually look pretty decent for a handheld adaptation.
The controls are simple (A to accelerate, B to brake, shoulder buttons to drift), but the tracks have enough twists and shortcuts to keep you from just holding down A the whole time. I remember struggling with the tighter turns at first until I figured out the timing for drifts. And yeah, you’ll recognize a few familiar faces cheering you on from the sidelines.
It’s not gonna dethrone Mario Kart, but for a licensed game, it’s way more playable than it had any right to be. The soundtrack’s got that upbeat racing vibe, too. Definitely a nostalgia trip if you were into the movie back in the day.
