If you grew up with the Cars movies, this GBA racer is pure nostalgia fuel. You start off tearing through Radiator Springs as Lightning McQueen, but the real star here is Mater—he’s got his own weird, tractor-tipping minigames that break up the racing. The tracks are full of little nods to the movie, like Luigi’s tire shop or the neon glow of the Wheel Well motel at night.
It’s not just about speed, either. Some races force you to drift around oil slicks or dodge traffic, and the controls actually feel decent for a handheld racer. I remember getting stuck on one of the later dirt tracks because the physics get weirdly slippery, but nailing a perfect slide past Sheriff is weirdly satisfying. The customization’s basic—just swapping paint jobs and parts—but it’s enough to make your car feel like yours.
Honestly, it’s a solid pick if you want something lighthearted between Mario Kart sessions.
