About Cars (e)(independent)
I picked up Cars for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a title published by THQ that arrived alongside the Pixar film. It was one of many licensed games from that era, a time when your handheld library often included these movie tie-ins. This version was its own thing, separate from the console releases, built for on the go play.
You control Lightning McQueen and other characters from the film across a series of races and minigames. The main goal is to progress through the different events, winning cups and unlocking new content. The gameplay splits between straightforward circuit racing on small tracks and a collection of minigames that break up the pace, like time trials or stunt challenges. The racing itself is simple to grasp, with an emphasis on drifting around corners and avoiding obstacles, though some of the later events can get tricky. It feels like a compact, portable package meant for quick sessions between other activities.
