About Carmageddon
Carmageddon on the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, developed by Torus Games. It was a time when portable racing games were mostly about clean laps and checkered flags, but this one took a different route. It was a handheld version of the controversial PC and console game, trying to fit its chaotic spirit onto the small screen.
You control one of several cars, and your main goal is to win races or, more often, take out all the other drivers. The signature mechanics are the pedestrian mayhem and the freedom to wreck opponents. You earn extra time by hitting pedestrians or causing spectacular crashes, which keeps you from timing out. The game is fast and unforgiving; the physics are simple but the other cars are aggressive. It feels like a messy, frantic scramble where survival matters more than finishing first.
