Okay, so Cabela's Big Game Hunter on GBA is basically what happens when you cram a hunting sim into a tiny cartridge. You start off picking your rifle—bolt-action or semi-auto—and then it drops you in the middle of the woods with nothing but your wits and a very pixelated deer in the distance.
The aiming’s a little janky at first (that crosshair moves way too fast), but once you get the hang of it, there’s something weirdly satisfying about lining up the perfect shot. Miss, though, and everything bolts—you’ll be tracking footprints for the next five minutes. Pro tip: crouch-walking helps, but don’t expect realism. The bears? They just kinda stand there until you shoot them.
It’s got that early 2000s charm—blocky trees, questionable animal AI, and a soundtrack that’s half tense stalking music, half banjo twang. Not gonna lie, it’s janky, but in that way where you keep playing just to see what ridiculous thing happens next. Like when a moose suddenly materializes three feet in front of you. Classic.
If you’ve got nostalgia for weird GBA spin-offs, this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect Red Dead levels of immersion.
