About Bust-a-move 4 (mono Hack)
Bust-A-Move 4 for the Game Boy Color was released in 2000, developed by Taito. It arrived late in the handheld's life, a time when puzzle games were a reliable staple for portable play. This version is a monochrome adaptation of the colorful console original, stripping the visuals down to suit the hardware's limitations.
You control a cannon at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward. The goal is to clear the entire screen of bubbles by matching three or more of the same color. Key mechanics include the ability to bank shots off the side walls for tricky angles and a chain reaction system where popping one group can cause others to fall. The game starts simply but the stages quickly demand precise aiming and planning ahead. It feels satisfying to set off a long cascade that clears the board in a few well-placed shots.
