Bust-A-Move 4 came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that wave of puzzle games you could carry in your pocket, a time when color screens on handhelds still felt like a new luxury. This was the fourth main entry in the series, and it arrived when the portable market was crowded with quick, repeatable experiences.

You control a cursor at the bottom of the screen, aiming and launching colored bubbles upward to match groups of three or more of the same color. The main goal is to clear all the bubbles from the playfield before the ceiling slowly descends and ends your run. Signature mechanics include the ability to bank your shot off the side walls for tricky angles, and special bubbles with unique effects, like the lightning bubble that clears an entire horizontal row. The game starts gently but the pace quickens, and the later stages demand careful planning and precise shots. It feels satisfying to set up a chain reaction that clears half the screen in one go.
