Bubble Bobble on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, a Taito release that brought the arcade classic to the handheld. It was part of that wave of late 90s portable games where you could carry a familiar experience in your pocket, a straightforward conversion without a lot of extra fuss.

You control one of the little dragons, Bub or Bob, and your goal is to clear each single screen level of enemies. You trap them in bubbles you blow, then pop the bubbles to defeat them. Sometimes fruit or other items appear for you to collect, and there are special power ups that change your bubble's properties. The game moves at a quick pace, and the levels get progressively more cramped and tricky. It feels simple and cheerful at first, but demands sharp timing and clever movement to finish. Playing it is a mix of lighthearted fun and genuine concentration.
