About Boulder Dash Ex
Boulder Dash EX came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Crawfish Interactive. It was part of that wave of classic arcade remakes and puzzle games that filled the GBA library, offering a portable version of a familiar concept. You control Rockford, a little guy who digs through caves. Your main goal is to collect a certain number of diamonds on each screen before you can exit to the next level.
You move Rockford through dirt, which you can dig away tile by tile. The signature mechanics are pushing boulders and avoiding falling rocks. You have to be careful; if a boulder falls on you, it's game over. Butterflies and fireflies roam the caves, and if you crush them with a rock, they sometimes turn into more diamonds. The game starts simple but gets tricky fast, with levels that require precise timing and planning several moves ahead. It feels like a tense, thoughtful scramble where one wrong move can collapse everything.
