Bouken! Dondoko Shima is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this odd charm to it. You’re basically dropped on a tiny island with a handful of villagers, and the whole thing plays like a mix of resource management and light strategy. Chop trees, build huts, fend off monsters—it’s simple but weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of it.

The pixel art’s got that classic GBC look, all bright and chunky, and the music’s way catchier than it has any right to be. Took me a minute to figure out the menus since everything’s in Japanese, but after a few trial-and-error clicks, I was hooked. If you’re into quirky retro sims, this one’s worth digging up.
