About Bookworm
I first played Bookworm on the Game Boy Advance back in 2003. It was a PopCap Games title, one of those clever puzzle games that felt perfectly suited for a handheld. During that era, the GBA library was full of action platformers and RPGs, so a word game like this was a refreshing change of pace. It didn't try to be flashy; it was just a solid, thoughtful experience you could pick up anywhere.
You control a little bookworm named Lex, and your goal is to help him navigate a tower of books by forming words from a grid of letter tiles. You connect adjacent letters to spell words, which then vanish from the board, allowing new tiles to fall into place. Longer words are key, as they deal more damage to the burning tiles that slowly descend and threaten to end your run. The game starts calmly but steadily builds pressure, forcing you to think quickly under a real-time threat. It feels like a race against a slow, creeping fire, making each successful word a genuine relief.
