About Bokura No Taiyo (j)(eurasia)
Bokura no Taiyo, released in 2005 for the Game Boy Advance, was developed by Konami. It was the third entry in the Boktai series and, like its predecessors, remained exclusive to Japan. This placed it among the later, more experimental titles for the handheld, a period when developers were pushing the hardware's capabilities with unique concepts.
You control Django, a young Solar Boy, on a mission to purify the world of immortal enemies. Your primary tool is the Gun Del Sol, a weapon that uses actual sunlight, measured by a built-in solar sensor on the cartridge. Gameplay involves traversing screen-by-screen areas, solving environmental puzzles, and battling vampires by charging your weapon in direct light. The core loop is methodical; you must constantly manage your position relative to real-world sunlight, making overcast days or playing indoors a genuine tactical challenge. The difficulty comes from this constant resource management and the need to plan routes around shaded areas. Moving through the world with the sun as your only reliable ally creates a tense, intimate connection between the game and your immediate environment.
