Boktai is one of those weird, brilliant GBA games that actually makes you go outside. You play as Django, this vampire hunter kid with a solar-powered gun—and here’s the kicker: the cartridge has a light sensor. No sun? Good luck recharging your weapon indoors under a lamp (it kinda works, but not really).
The dungeons are these moody, shadowy mazes where you sneak past or blast vampires, and the sunlight mechanic forces you to get creative. I remember holding my GBA up to the window like an idiot just to get enough juice for a boss fight. The mix of stealth, action, and that gimmicky-but-fun solar system makes it feel like nothing else. Just don’t start a playthrough on a cloudy day.
It’s got that classic Kojima weirdness too—expect cryptic dialogue, goofy gadgets, and a story that’s equal parts silly and surprisingly dark. If you can track down a copy (and some sunshine), it’s still a blast.
