Boktai 2 is one of those weird, brilliant GBA games that actually makes you go outside—no joke. You play as Django, a vampire hunter with a solar-powered gun, and the cartridge has a real sunlight sensor. Forget grinding for ammo; if it’s cloudy out, you’re basically screwed until the sun comes back.
The first time I played, I didn’t realize how much the light meter mattered. Charged up in direct sunlight? You melt vampires like butter. Indoors at night? Good luck poking them to death with weak shots. The dungeons are these tense, shadowy mazes where you’re constantly balancing stealth and aggression, and the solar mechanic makes every fight feel different depending on the time of day.
It’s got that classic Kojima weirdness too—upgradable weapons, quirky NPCs, and a story that’s equal parts goofy and grim. Just don’t expect to binge it in one sitting unless you’ve got a sunny window or a really bright lamp. The game straight-up refuses to cooperate otherwise.
