Boktai is one of those weird, brilliant GBA gems that actually makes you go outside. Yeah, seriously—your solar-powered gun charges up with real sunlight thanks to the cartridge’s built-in sensor. No cheating by playing under a lamp, either; the game knows.
You play as Django, a vampire hunter lugging around a coffin (for reasons), sneaking through shadows and timing attacks when the sun’s out. The mix of stealth and action feels fresh, especially when you’re scrambling to reposition as clouds roll over. Just don’t expect to binge it at night unless you’ve got a charged battery from earlier.
Konami nailed the atmosphere—gothic but not too edgy, with this weirdly satisfying loop of hunting undead, upgrading gear, and figuring out how much direct sunlight your room actually gets. It’s a shame more games didn’t steal this gimmick.
