I picked up Boboboubo Boubobo: Bakutou Hajike Taisen around the time it came out on Game Boy Advance in 2002. It was a Hudson Soft title, and it felt right at home among the other quirky Japanese games that sometimes made it over during that era. The GBA library was full of experimental stuff, and this one definitely fit that description.

You control Bobobo, a man with a giant yellow afro, navigating through side scrolling stages. The main goal is to fight through waves of the Bald Empire's minions using your nose hair as a weapon. You can whip out nose hair attacks to stun enemies, then follow up with rapid punches to finish them off. A key mechanic is the tension gauge; filling it lets you unleash a super move that clears the screen. The game moves at a frantic pace, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with swarms of enemies. Playing it feels like being inside a chaotic cartoon where the rules are made up as you go.
