Blaster Master: Enemy Below came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Sunsoft. It was part of that wave of late-era Game Boy titles that tried to squeeze a console-like experience into a pocket format. You got a decently ambitious action game, one that felt like a substantial quest for a handheld at the time.

You control Jason, a kid who pilots an all-terrain vehicle called SOPHIA. The main goal is to explore a sprawling underground world, screen by screen, to stop a mutant threat. A lot of the game involves switching between two distinct modes. You drive SOPHIA through side-scrolling areas, blasting enemies and hunting for upgrades to access new zones. Then, when you find a cave entrance, you get out and continue on foot in an overhead view, using a blaster and grenades in tighter, maze-like dungeons. It's a difficult game; you need to manage your health and weapon energy carefully across both perspectives. The constant shift between the powerful tank and the vulnerable soldier gives the whole adventure a tense, strategic rhythm.
