Beatmania GB is basically the portable, stripped-down version of the arcade rhythm game—but don’t let that fool you. It’s got that same weird charm where you’re tapping buttons in time with these oddly catchy J-pop and techno tracks. The tiny screen makes it a little harder to follow the notes compared to the arcade, but after a few tries, you start getting into the groove.

Controls are simple—just the A and B buttons plus the D-pad—but some of the later tracks get surprisingly fast. The music selection’s a mixed bag, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about nailing a combo on a train ride. Definitely one of those "wait, how did I just spend 20 minutes on this?" kind of games.
