Beatmania GB - Gotcha Mix 2 is one of those weird little Game Boy Color rhythm games that somehow works way better than it should. You’ve got the classic Beatmania setup—hit notes scrolling down the screen, timed to J-pop and electronic tracks—but crammed onto a tiny GBC screen. The controls take a second to get used to (A and B buttons handle the notes, shoulder buttons for scratching), but once it clicks, it’s weirdly addictive.
The tracklist is pure late-90s Konami charm—expect cheesy synth beats and a few surprise bangers. It’s not as flashy as the arcade version, obviously, but there’s something satisfying about nailing a combo on a chiptune remix. Also, the "Gotcha" part means you unlock characters and DJ gear as you play, which is a nice little bonus.
If you’re into obscure rhythm games or just love the GBC’s janky sound chip, this one’s a fun time. Just don’t expect it to replace your arcade stick.
