About Battleship
Battleship for the Game Boy Color came out in 1998 from Hasbro Interactive. It was part of that wave of board game adaptations that tried to make the most of the handheld's color screen, a step up from the original monochrome Game Boy. You got a portable version of the classic guessing game, something to play in short bursts when you had a few minutes to spare.
You control a fleet of ships, placing them on a grid before the match begins. The main objective is to sink your opponent's entire fleet before they sink yours. The core mechanics are the strategic placement of your own ships and the turn-based guessing of enemy coordinates, calling out spots like "B-5" to hunt them down. The game includes a few variations, like a Salvo mode that lets you fire multiple shots for each ship you still have afloat, which changes the pacing considerably. The computer opponent provides a decent challenge, forcing you to think a few moves ahead and adapt your search patterns. It feels like a quiet, methodical puzzle where a single lucky guess can turn the entire game around.
