Battlemaniacs is basically Battletoads' wild Brazilian cousin on the Sega Master System. It's got that same ridiculous charm—cartoonish violence, weird enemy designs, and those satisfyingly chunky sound effects when you punch something into next week. But don't let the goofy style fool you—this port somehow manages to be even harder than the SNES version. The first level lulls you in with simple platforming, then suddenly you're dodging instant-death traps that feel like they were designed by someone with a grudge against joy.

Still, there's something weirdly addictive about it. Maybe it's the way your toad's face contorts when he gets hit, or how the music somehow makes getting wrecked feel dramatic. Just... maybe keep a walkthrough handy for that infamous speeder bike section.
