Bat-Man: Chaos in Gotham came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Kemco and published by Ubisoft. It was part of that wave of licensed games that tried to bring comic book action to the small screen, and it felt very much of its time, a pocket-sized Batman adventure you could take anywhere.

You control Batman through a series of side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen to clear areas of the Joker's henchmen. Your main goal is to stop the Joker from poisoning Gotham's water supply, which involves navigating city streets, factories, and other themed stages. You punch and kick your way through enemies, and you can also use a limited supply of batarangs to hit foes from a distance. The levels are fairly linear, but they require you to find keys or hit switches to open new paths, which breaks up the straightforward combat. The game moves at a quick pace, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss fights. Playing it feels like a brisk, sometimes punishing, run through a classic Batman scenario.
