Okay, so Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race is way more fun than it has any right to be. You start off picking your horse—I always went for the palomino because, let’s be real, it’s the prettiest—and then you’re immediately thrown into these little races through meadows and forests. The controls are simple, just enough GBA button-mashing to feel satisfying without being frustrating.
Between races, you can trot around collecting ribbons and apples (for some reason?), and there’s this weirdly addictive loop of upgrading your saddle or brushing your horse to keep it happy. The graphics are actually pretty nice for a GBA game—lots of pinks and purples, obviously—and the music’s got that early 2000s charm. It’s not exactly hardcore, but if you ever wanted to live out a low-stakes fantasy of being a sparkly horse girl, this is the game for you.
Honestly, it’s a solid little time capsule of 2003. Just don’t let your friends catch you playing it.
